FAQ

Questions, answered.

The things facility managers, IT leads and contractors ask us most about raised access floors.

The basics

What is a raised access floor?

A raised access floor is a floor built on adjustable pedestals above the structural slab. The space underneath — the plenum — carries power, data cabling and, in many data centres, cold air from the cooling units. Removable panels let you reach anything below without tearing up the floor.

What size are access floor panels?

The industry standard panel is 600 × 600 mm (24 × 24 in). Panels come in solid, perforated and grated versions, with different load ratings and finishes depending on the system.

How high can a raised floor be?

It depends on the system and what needs to go underneath. Floors range from low-profile installs for cabling only to deep plenums for underfloor cooling. We'll confirm the right finished height with you and your engineer before we start.

Which systems do you work with?

We install new systems and work on existing floors from most major manufacturers. If you have an older floor, send us photos or the manufacturer name and we'll confirm parts and compatibility.

Working on site

Can you work in a live data centre?

Yes. We phase the work so only a small area is open at a time, schedule around your change windows, control dust, and follow your site's access and escort procedures.

Do you work nights and weekends?

Yes. After-hours work is common for live rooms and can be built into your quote.

How do you make sure the floor is level?

Pedestals are set to height and the floor is checked as we go, then given a final level check before sign-off. The tolerance is confirmed with you up front.

Is the floor grounded?

Raised floors in data centres are normally bonded to the building's grounding system. We coordinate with your electrical contractor so bonding is completed to code.

Repairs & changes

Why are my floor panels rocking?

Usually a pedestal has shifted or lost adhesion, a panel is worn or damaged, or debris is caught under a corner. We find the cause, re-level the area and replace failed parts.

Can you move perforated tiles to fix hot spots?

Yes. We can relocate or add perforated and grated panels to match your rack layout, and blank off openings where cold air is escaping.

Can you cut cable openings in existing panels?

Yes. We cut clean openings and fit grommets or edge trim so the opening is safe and airflow stays sealed.

Quotes & timing

How much does a raised access floor cost?

Cost depends on floor area, finished height, panel type and load rating, site access, and whether the room is live. Send us your room size and drawings and we'll provide a detailed quote.

What areas do you serve?

All of Ontario, including Toronto and the GTA, Ottawa, Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton, London, Guelph, Barrie, Kingston, Windsor and Northern Ontario.

How quickly can you start?

Repairs and small changes can often be scheduled quickly. New installations depend on material lead times and your construction schedule — we'll give you a realistic start date with your quote.
